Who we are and what we doThe Hoopla Foundation started out small as a group of friends and family just wanting to do what we could to make sure that no one had to hear the words "You have cancer" ever again. That start came in the form of a Relay for Life team, the Knutson Family Team. As the team grew it split into two teams, and The Tastefully Simpletons were born. Between the two teams, several fundraisers were done throughout the year, including the Geneva Lake Walk, The Knutson Family Bowl-a-Thon, the Gaming Hoopla, and many more smaller fundraisers.
Throughout the years our fundraisers grew, and so did our staff and income. While we are still a 100% volunteer staff and give all of our proceeds (after fundraiser expenses) to the American Cancer Society via the Relay For Life, we made the decision to become our own NPO. The driving force behind our decision to become an NPO was to create accountability to our supporters, provide tax deductions for our larger contributors, and provide a safety net for volunteer staff members' liability at events. |
